What Is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal Medicine is the use of plants for their therapeutic properties. It is the oldest and the most widely used system of medicine in the world today.
Significant advantages can be derived from using herbal treatments to prevent / treat disease and / or promote health and well-being. The therapeutic activity of a plant, due to its chemical nature, provides a gentle and safe solution to all manner of conditions.
Herbal Medicine is increasingly being validated by scientific investigation, and many modern pharmaceuticals have been modelled on, or derived from chemicals found in plants.
How Does Herbal Treatment Work?
Over thousands of years of use, specific plants have become known for their active healing ingredients, which work to stimulate and strengthen the body’s own healing powers. A Medical Herbalist works holistically; offering patients custom-made medicine to support the body’s healing process. By consulting a Medical Herbalist, you are ensuring the most appropriate herbs are used to successfully treat your condition.
The first consultation will generally lasts for one hour and takes into consideration your diet, lifestyle and a detailed account of your medical history.
Treatment is generally in the form of liquid tinctures, herbal teas, pills, cream, pessaries and lotions.
